Phaidon International has come 23th in 100 Best Small Companies to Work For – The Sunday Times.
HIGH-FLYERS GO international at this recruitment company. In the past two years, London-based Phaidon International has offered more than 30 employees jobs in its New York, Singapore, Zurich and Hong Kong offices. We report a compound annual growth rate of more than 34% year on year, and our 144 staff feel excited about the future and that they are able to make a valuable contribution to the business’s success (both positive scores of 94%).
We have won our highest position yet, as a Best Small Company in our third year of entering. Founder and Chief Executive Adam Buck created the financial recruitment firm, Selby Jennings, in 2004 which has now expanded to eight specialist “brands” working in different industries and across 59 countries.
Back in 2011, the average age was 23, but now it is 30 as many have grown with the business as almost all senior managers started as graduate trainees, so they truly live the values of respecting ability, character and loyalty.
Buck has a plan people believe in, and he shares the private company’s performance at quarterly round-up meetings, which are recorded as videos and uploaded to the intranet. The inspiring leader is always there at social occasions, from the annual summer sports day to award ceremonies.
There’s plenty to celebrate. The board has created a global incentive plan and promotion structure known as Ascent, showing people how much they can earn depending on time with the company and the amount billed.
The company mission is “to achieve the improbable” and people here certainly try, whether it’s learning about new industry sectors or taking part in the company’s “24-hour” 10th birthday party, feted successively in its offices across the world.
