Job Overview:
The Head of Purchasing will take a leadership role within a dynamic manufacturing company, serving a key client and overseeing the entire procurement function. The successful candidate will lead a team of 15 procurement professionals and will be responsible for rebuilding and optimising the purchasing department. This includes implementing strategic sourcing initiatives, improving supplier relationships, reducing costs, and enhancing overall operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing procurement team, providing clear direction, support, and performance management to align with business objectives.
- Rebuild Procurement Function: Overhaul existing procurement processes, systems, and strategies to establish a more agile, scalable, and efficient function.
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate closely with key internal stakeholders, particularly the manufacturing and operations teams, to understand procurement needs and ensure alignment with client demands.
- Client Relationship Management: Serve as the primary procurement liaison for a key client within the manufacturing sector, ensuring timely delivery of materials, cost optimisation, and adherence to client standards.
- Supplier Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers to ensure the highest levels of service, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Negotiate contracts, pricing, and delivery terms to secure favourable terms for the business.
- Cost Optimisation: Implement strategies to reduce procurement costs without compromising quality or delivery timelines. Identify and capitalise on opportunities for savings through supplier negotiations and process improvements.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to procurement activities, including supplier performance, market fluctuations, and potential disruptions.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilise data and analytic to assess procurement performance, track KPIs, and drive continuous improvement.
- Sustainability and Compliance: Ensure all purchasing activities align with industry regulations, corporate sustainability goals, and ethical procurement standards.
- Technology and Tools: Lead the adoption and integration of procurement technologies and tools that enhance process efficiency, reporting, and vendor management.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- 8+ years of experience in procurement or supply chain management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience in rebuilding or restructuring a procurement department.
- Strong knowledge of strategic sourcing, supplier management, and contract negotiations.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to manage complex relationships with key clients and internal stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and decision-making capabilities.
- Proficient in procurement software and ERP systems.
