DSJ Global is currently partnered with a leading Pharmaceutical Manufacturing organization based in the Greater Greensboro, NC area, who are actively seeking to add an Associate Director, Research & Development to the high-performing team! This is an exciting opportunity to join a leader in the industry, driving development and innovation!

Job Overview

Leads the Engineering Research & Development (ERD) group, focusing on optimizing chemical routes and developing new processes for synthetic intermediates and APIs. Demonstrates skills in chemical process development and kilo-scale synthesis. Provides engineering support at the site, including designing and maintaining pilot and commercial scale equipment. Acts as an expert resource in chemical engineering and pharmaceutical science. Communicates with clients in regular team meetings.


As the Associate Director, R&D you will…

  • Manage the Engineering R&D team to meet customer and business demands while adhering to regulatory and company standards.
  • Apply chemical engineering principles to design processes for safe production of pharmaceutical candidates.
  • Expertise in continuous processing and flow chemistry required.
  • Write and review reports, batch records, and protocols.
  • Collaborate with chemists to develop robust processes for lab and plant production.
  • Stay updated on techniques for improving engineering principles and cGMP regulations.
  • Ensure safe and compliant laboratory operations.
  • Handle recruitment, performance management, and team development.
  • Communicate effectively internally and externally.
  • Promote project results to clients.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing and GMP operations.
  • Foster teamwork and cooperation within the group.


The Associate Director, R&D should have…

  • Excellent verbal and written communication/interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and the ability to work in a diverse team environment are essential.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft software (SharePoint, Word / EXCEL / PowerPoint) is expected.
  • A minimum of B.S. in Chemical Engineering or related field with 7 years relevant experience in lab environment, pharmaceutical experience preferred. Leadership experience preferred.
