Role Overview:

The Electrical Engineer will play a crucial role in advancing World Class Manufacturing (WCM) projects through the development and optimization of production methods, instrumentation, controls, and distributed control system (DCS) management. This position is instrumental in ensuring processes are centered, capable, and controlled, minimizing process variations and addressing specific causes of variation.

This role will provide leadership in plant automation, electrical and database systems, and execute capital projects. The engineer will report to the Engineering Manager or Electrical/Instrumentation Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, evaluate, and implement automation-related projects and initiatives.
  • Oversee the Valmet DCS and Quality Control System (QCS)/scanner.
  • Design or develop new process control systems and maintain existing processes.
  • Manage contractors, consultants, and suppliers, and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.
  • Coordinate with Production and Engineering Managers to implement changes and resolve equipment issues.
  • Develop and maintain PLC/HMI systems, and provide technical support for automation systems.
  • Ensure safety, quality, and reliability standards are integrated into systems.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts, use advanced tools to reduce downtime, and implement corrective actions for operating problems.
  • Develop standard operating procedures and maintain performance records.
  • Provide training to operators and maintenance staff.
  • Support and enforce plant safety regulations and 5S systems.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in Instrumentation & Controls (I&C), PLC programming, particularly with Allen Bradley PLCs.
  • Experience in a paper mill environment and with Valmet's DCS and QCS.
  • Knowledge of OSIsoft/Aveva Pi, Aveva Wonderware, motor control equipment, electrical process control, and industrial networking.
  • Familiarity with NEC and Arc-Flash code requirements.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
