Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and highly motivated Procurement Lead for Logistics Services to oversee the procurement of transport, rail, and road freight services. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies that optimize logistics costs, improve service levels, and ensure the efficient movement of goods across our global supply chain. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in logistics procurement, specifically within the transport, rail, and road freight sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement Strategy Development
Develop and implement procurement strategies for transport, rail, and road freight services that align with the company's supply chain and logistics objectives.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and establish long-term partnerships with service providers to ensure consistent, reliable, and cost-effective transportation solutions.
Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to continuously improve procurement strategies and logistics operations.
Supplier Selection & Management
Lead the selection, evaluation, and negotiation processes for transport, rail, and road freight providers to ensure the best possible terms, quality, and service levels.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key logistics service providers and manage ongoing performance through regular assessments and reviews.
Conduct regular market assessments to identify new suppliers and evaluate service provider performance, ensuring compliance with contractual terms and performance metrics.
Contract Negotiation & Management
Negotiate and manage contracts with transport, rail, and road freight service providers, ensuring competitive pricing, favorable terms, and service guarantees.
Ensure contracts are fully compliant with company policies, legal requirements, and regulatory standards, and are aligned with business goals.
Continuously review and optimize contracts to ensure value delivery and cost-effectiveness.
Logistics Performance Optimization
Work closely with internal teams (e.g., operations, planning, and warehouse management) to ensure seamless coordination between freight procurement and logistics operations.
Identify opportunities for process improvement, such as reducing transit times, optimizing routes, and improving delivery efficiency.
Implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and evaluate logistics service provider performance, including on-time delivery, cost control, and service quality.
Cost Control & Budget Management
Develop and manage budgets for logistics services, ensuring cost-effective procurement and adherence to budget guidelines.
Monitor and track logistics expenditures, identifying areas for cost optimization and efficiency improvements.
Analyze logistics spend data and provide actionable insights to senior management for decision-making.
Risk Management & Compliance
Identify and mitigate risks associated with transport, rail, and road freight procurement, including supply chain disruptions, compliance issues, and safety concerns.
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, including environmental and safety standards, to mitigate operational and reputational risks.
Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure that all contracts and procurement activities align with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Work closely with internal teams, including logistics, supply chain, and finance departments, to ensure alignment on procurement needs and strategies.
Serve as the main point of contact for all procurement-related queries regarding transport, rail, and road freight services.
Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, and continuous improvement within the procurement function and across the broader supply chain organization.
Required Qualifications & Skills
Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field. A master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., CIPS) is a plus.
Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in procurement or sourcing logistics services, specifically in transport, rail, and road freight.
Procurement & Negotiation Skills: Proven experience in negotiating and managing contracts with logistics service providers, including freight forwarders, rail operators, and road carriers.
Logistics & Supply Chain Expertise: Strong understanding of the logistics and supply chain industry, with a specific focus on transport, rail, and road freight services.
Analytical & Data-Driven: Ability to analyze logistics data, assess performance metrics, and use insights to drive improvements and cost savings.
Supplier Relationship Management: Experience in managing supplier relationships, conducting performance reviews, and optimizing service levels.
Risk & Compliance Management: Knowledge of risk management and regulatory compliance within the logistics industry, with a focus on safety, environmental, and legal standards.
Project Management: Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, ensuring timely delivery of logistics projects.
Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage with internal stakeholders, senior management, and suppliers effectively.
Languages: Fluency in English (written and spoken) is essential. Proficiency in additional languages (e.g., Dutch, French, German) is an advantage.
