Position Overview:
The Production Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing day-to-day manufacturing and packaging activities, ensuring the efficient execution of production plans, adherence to safety and quality standards, and fostering continuous improvement initiatives. This key leadership position involves managing a team, scheduling resources, and driving productivity in the manufacturing of low-protein foods, including frozen and dry-powder products.
Responsibilities:
- Build and lead high-performance teams, assigning responsibilities, and ensuring accountability for performance.
- Develop a work environment that prioritizes safety, quality, productivity, continuous improvement, trust, and teamwork.
- Plan, schedule, and assign production tasks to meet daily demands, monitoring progress and ensuring completion of all required training.
- Collaborate with the Supply Chain team to ensure the availability of sundry items used in production.
- Oversee all production processes, including kitting, batching, processing, packaging, and sanitation, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Implement Lean manufacturing projects (e.g., 5s) to maximize productivity, minimize waste, and improve costs.
- Use Key Performance Indicators daily to track results and implement continuous improvement activities (PDCA).
- Ensure accurate and timely employee time-keeping and PTO planning to assure adequate coverage.
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, FDA, USDA, HACCP, and company guidelines.
- Implement safety and quality procedures, ensuring personnel are certified in operating equipment.
- Monitor and maintain inventory control, lot tracking, and ingredient weight measurements.
- Take responsibility for the cleaning and sanitation of the production area.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent; Technical School or college degree preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a bakery.
- 2+ years of lead or supervisory experience.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9000, HACCP, and Food Safety protocols.
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent knowledge of bakery equipment, processes, and procedures.
- Strong mathematics skills, including calculations of whole numbers and fractions.
- Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
- Proven understanding of inventory control.
- Ability to maintain accurate document records and handle confidential data.
- Ability to multitask on projects and day-to-day responsibilities.
Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
Working Conditions:
- Works in a food manufacturing environment, adhering to GMP, Food Safety, and workplace safety policies.
- Regularly works near moving mechanical parts, occasionally in outside weather conditions.
- May be exposed to wet or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and vibration.
- Requires the use of hearing protection due to loud noise levels.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, walk on concrete floors up to 8 hours a day.
- Bend, reach, push, and pull, performing repetitive motions.
- Must be able to wear all personal protective equipment as outlined in Quality and Safety policies.
