Controls Engineer Specialist - Automation & Manufacturing
Salary: $85,000-$125,000+ Bonus
Location: Rockford, IL | 🕘 Shift: 1st Shift, Monday-Friday
An industry-leading global manufacturer is seeking a Controls Engineer Specialist to support automation innovation at its U.S.-based facility. What You'll Do
As a Controls Engineer Specialist, you'll play a key role in driving automation improvements and maintaining production systems. Your responsibilities will include:
Programming and troubleshooting Rockwell (PLC-5, SLC500, ControlLogix, CompactLogix) and Siemens PLCs
Developing and supporting HMI systems (PanelView, Siemens, Wonderware)
Setting up and maintaining VFDs and industrial safety controllers (Pilz, Sick, GuardMaster)
Designing/updating electrical controls, schematics, and layouts using AutoCAD
Providing hands-on support for system troubleshooting and start-ups
Researching and integrating new technologies into existing infrastructure
Documenting system changes and training operators and maintenance personnel
Supporting electrical installations, product launches, and line upgrades
Performing regular backups of PLC, HMI, and VFD data to the LAN
What You Bring
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Strong proficiency in PLC and HMI programming (Rockwell, Siemens)
Experience working with VFDs, safety systems, and industrial networks
Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD for electrical control design
A problem-solving mindset and ability to simplify and optimize complex systems
Strong communication skills and the ability to work with cross-functional teams
Self-starter mentality with a proactive approach to continuous improvement
