Manufacturing Engineer - CNC
Job Summary: The CNC Manufacturing Engineer will support ongoing manufacturing activities to ensure critical delivery targets and company financial targets are met. This role involves programming cutting machines and CNC machines, analyzing and implementing improvements to materials and processes, and leading Lean activities. The engineer will work closely with various teams to transition new product designs into full production and provide data and analysis to management.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program and operate cutting machines and CNC machines.
- Utilize engineering drawings to create patterns and develop CNC programs.
- Lead and support Lean activities such as Kaizen events and mistake-proofing.
- Solve high-priority issues related to manufacturing output, quality, tooling, process, and material.
- Provide data and analysis of manufacturing activities to management and machine operators.
- Assist supervisors with new production techniques and troubleshoot rejected parts.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain and Engineering teams.
- Provide design teams with estimates for facilities, equipment, capital, and personnel requirements for new product designs.
- Transition new product designs into full production, including the purchase and installation of new equipment, tooling, and fixtures.
- Design or assist with the design and build of manufacturing and test equipment.
- Perform or oversee pilot runs and initial production runs.
- Identify and report issues requiring elevation and action internally or externally.
- Support and learn from other teams within the company, understanding their interactions with manufacturing in detail.
- Assist in time and cost estimates.
- Purchase capital equipment by vetting qualified vendors and overseeing purchases.
- Design jigs and fixtures to speed manufacturing processes and ensure consistent quality.
- Assign work to designers, technicians, technical writers, engineering technicians, and machine shop personnel.
- Determine the location of factory equipment and relocate as necessary.
- Create manufacturing plans for new products, including projected assembly processes, rates, equipment, costs, and personnel needs.
- Make suggestions and design modifications for cost-effective and easily manufactured and assembled products.
- Write and review Manufacturing Process Sheets (MPS) for accuracy and clarity.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in CNC programming and operation.
- Strong knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency in CAD software and ERP systems.
- Strong communication skills.
