EHS Specialist

Job Summary:

A well-established manufacturing company in St. Louis, MO is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support and enhance its EHS compliance and safety culture. This on-site role is responsible for ensuring adherence to environmental and occupational health regulations while driving continuous improvement in workplace safety systems and protocols. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, detail-oriented, and capable of working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and continuous improvement of site EHS policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and corporate EHS regulations.

  • Manage and maintain EHS recordkeeping systems, metrics, and documentation.

  • Assist with investigations related to employee injuries, near misses, spills, or chemical releases.

  • Deliver and support EHS training initiatives across site operations.

  • Administer safety permit systems (e.g., Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Hot Work, Elevated Work).

  • Conduct periodic hazard assessments, inspections, and safety observations.

  • Provide input during equipment installations, operational changes, and project reviews to ensure safety compliance.

  • Assist with environmental inspections, including stormwater, SPCC, hazardous waste, and LDAR programs.

  • Operate and maintain industrial hygiene and air quality monitoring equipment.

  • Respond to on-site emergencies and contribute subject matter expertise during incident management.

  • Support compliance with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS).

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field.

Experience:

  • 1-3 years of EHS experience preferred; recent graduates with strong internship or co-op experience encouraged to apply.

  • Prior experience in a manufacturing, chemical, or pharmaceutical environment is a plus.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Knowledge of relevant regulations (e.g., 29 CFR 1910, 1926, 40 CFR) and EHS management systems.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word; comfortable managing data and reports.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; able to train and collaborate at all organizational levels.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.

  • Comfortable wearing PPE and performing inspections in a plant environment.

  • Experience with conflict resolution and safety culture development is an asset.
