Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer
Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Rotating Equipment Engineer to join our engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the selection, specification, design review, procurement, installation, and maintenance support of rotating equipment for various industrial and energy-related projects. This role demands in-depth technical expertise, leadership, and the ability to collaborate across disciplines to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Support rotating equipment projects for the HDPE plant.
Lead the initiation, estimation, and execution of maintenance projects and equipment upgrades.
Plan and schedule maintenance activities to ensure efficient execution.
Maintain and update documentation related to reliability programs.
Collaborate with reliability teams to meet internal and external customer needs.
Continuously improve reliability and mechanical integrity programs to enhance equipment performance and reduce costs.
Assist operations and maintenance teams with troubleshooting and resolving mechanical issues.
Support reliability specialists, planners, supervisors, millwrights, and other maintenance personnel.
Lead and participate in root cause analyses (RCA) for rotating equipment failures; implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Evaluate and oversee shop and field repairs of rotating equipment, identifying failure causes and recommending engineering improvements.
Create preventive maintenance (PM) tasks and update Bill of Materials (BOMs) and spare parts lists in SAP.
Attend factory acceptance testing (FAT) and participate in commissioning and startup of new equipment.
Ensure adherence to plant safety policies and contribute to safety reporting using loss control software.
Provide input for reliability KPIs such as Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) and equipment downtime metrics.
Contribute to continuous improvement by proposing long-term solutions for equipment reliability and cost reduction.
Work overtime and alternate shifts as needed to support plant operations.
Participate in an on-call rotation (approximately 3 weeks per year), with 24/7 availability during assigned weeks for emergency support.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering; candidates with other engineering or technical disciplines will be considered based on relevant experience.
Minimum of 7 years of experience in maintenance engineering within a petrochemical plant environment; experience supporting capital projects is a plus.
Strong working knowledge of SAP, including Bill of Materials (BOMs), Work Orders (WOs), Purchase Requisitions (PRs), Purchase Orders (POs), and Equipment Hierarchies.
Proficient in standard business software, including Microsoft Office and SAP.
Familiarity with API seal plans, rotating equipment alignment practices, and interpreting cross-sectional mechanical drawings.
Solid understanding and application of relevant industry standards, including API 610, 617, 618, 670, 677, 682, 686, among others.
Hands-on experience with a range of rotating equipment such as pumps, motors, fans, blowers, compressors, extruders, pelletizers, and agitators. (Note: No turbine experience required.)
Preferred Skills:
Over 10 years of experience in maintenance engineering, with a strong background in both rotating and fixed equipment within industrial plant settings.
More than a decade of engineering experience in the oil refining and petrochemical industries, with a focus on equipment reliability and performance.
Physical Capacity Requirements:
Complying with all site safety protocols, including the use of flame-resistant clothing (FRC) and required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety footwear, eye and ear protection, hand protection, and fall protection, as indicated by signage or procedures.
Reading and comprehending technical documents, procedures, and instructions in English.
Possessing adequate visual capabilities including near, intermediate, and far vision, color differentiation, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Working at various elevations, including ground level, from ladders, and at heights exceeding 250 feet on fixed platforms, mobile platforms, and scaffolding.
Ascending and descending stairs and vertical ladders (with and without safety cages).
Entering and working within confined spaces and pressure vessels via standard 24-inch manways.
Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Frequently bending, reaching, stooping, crawling, walking, and climbing as required by the task.
Sitting or standing for extended periods.
Using computers for prolonged durations throughout the workday.
Reaching overhead and at shoulder height with hands and arms.
Demonstrating both fine and gross motor skills, including pinching, gripping, turning, and typing with both hands.
Navigating uneven terrain such as catwalks, grated decks, and muddy or wet surfaces.
Working outdoors in all weather conditions, potentially walking up to ½ mile per task.
