Rotating Equipment Engineer

Job Summary:

We are looking for a Rotating Equipment Engineer to support the selection, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of rotating machinery across our facilities. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of rotating equipment fundamentals and experience working in a fast-paced industrial or energy-related environment. You will be involved in both new project developments and plant operations, ensuring optimal equipment performance, safety, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support rotating equipment projects and improvements for HDPE plant operations.

  • Manage engineering scope, cost estimates, and installation of maintenance projects.
  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate maintenance activities to optimize reliability and uptime.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical issues and support maintenance and operations teams.
  • Lead or assist in RCAs (Root Cause Analyses) for equipment failures.
  • Evaluate repair quality (in-house and external), identifying root causes and recommending changes to prevent future failures.
  • Collaborate with reliability engineers, planners, millwrights, and supervisors on asset health and performance.
  • Update reliability program documentation; create preventive maintenance tasks and equipment BOMs in SAP.
  • Analyze and report on key reliability metrics (e.g., MTBF, lost production due to equipment failure).
  • Participate in FATs, commissioning, and startup of new or modified equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with all plant safety policies and contribute to incident/loss reporting systems.
  • Recommend long-term, cost-effective solutions to improve reliability and performance.
  • Work overtime or alternative shifts as needed to support plant operations.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule (approx. 3 weeks/year) with 24/7 emergency response availability.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (other technical degrees may be considered based on relevant experience).

  • Minimum of 3 years of maintenance engineering experience in a petrochemical plant environment.
  • Preferred experience with capital project execution and support.
  • Proficient in SAP, including BOM creation, work orders (WOs), purchase requisitions (PRs), purchase orders (POs), and equipment hierarchy.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and enterprise maintenance systems.
  • Familiarity with API seal plans, rotating equipment alignment, and interpretation of cross-sectional mechanical drawings.
  • Knowledge and application of industry standards such as API 610, 617, 618, 670, 677, 682, 686, and other relevant codes.
  • Hands-on experience with a range of rotating equipment, including pumps, motors, fans, blowers, compressors, extruders, pelletizers, and agitators (note: no turbines on site).

Preferred Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years of maintenance engineering experience, with a focus on both rotating and fixed plant equipment.

  • At least 5 years of engineering experience in the oil refining or petrochemical industry.
