Controls Engineer

Job Title: Controls Engineer
Location: Shelby, MI

We are looking for an experienced Controls Engineer to join our team at our Shelby Township, MI facility. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in industrial software development. The selected candidate will initially assist with ongoing projects, then take on the responsibility of independently completing and leading new projects. The position involves developing and debugging software for new machines, and will require travel to customer sites for equipment installations and support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop PLC software and HMIs for industrial automation systems.

  • Troubleshoot and debug PLC software and HMIs to ensure optimal system performance.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project deadlines and milestones.

  • Maintain detailed task lists, tracking open items, and preparing progress reports.

  • Document project designs and deliverables for customers.

  • Ensure all engineering processes are properly followed and tracked throughout the project.

  • Provide troubleshooting assistance to customers and local technicians on equipment issues.

  • Conduct end-user training for customers on equipment operation.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred), Mechatronics, or a related field.

  • At least 2 years of experience as a Controls Engineer.

  • Strong knowledge in electrical circuits, schematic reading, design, and troubleshooting.

  • Proficiency with electrical CAD systems such as AutoCAD Electrical and/or ePLAN.

  • Experience with Rockwell Logix 5000 or Siemens S7-1500 family processors.

  • Familiarity with programming languages like VB, C/C++, or C# (preferred).

  • Proficient in PLC programming using ladder logic and structured text.

  • Experience in programming HMIs (Rockwell and Siemens preferred).

  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).

  • Willingness to travel 30% (domestic and international).

  • Availability for weekend work when required based on project schedules.
