The Senior Director of Logistics oversees and manages the organization's logistics operations, ensuring efficient and cost-effective movement of goods and services. This leadership role involves strategic planning, operational management, and performance optimization across logistics functions.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning and Leadership:
- Develop and implement logistics strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Lead and manage a team of logistics professionals.
- Collaborate with departments like Procurement, Supply Chain, Sales, and Finance.
Logistics Management:
- Oversee logistics operations including Procurement, Inventory Control, Transportation, and Distribution.
- Identify and mitigate supply chain risks.
- Optimize logistics networks for cost savings and reliability.
Operational Oversight:
- Manage transportation and distribution systems, including relationships with carriers and third-party logistics providers.
- Ensure compliance with shipping, customs, and hazardous materials regulations.
- Oversee warehouse operations for efficient use of space, equipment, and technology.
Performance Monitoring and Improvement:
- Establish KPIs to measure efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
- Continuously improve logistics operations to enhance customer satisfaction.
- Implement technologies and automation, including a new Warehouse Management System.
Financial Management:
- Develop and manage the logistics budget.
- Negotiate contracts and rates with logistics service providers.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Ensure adherence to transportation and trade regulations.
- Manage risks related to logistics operations, including safety and environmental concerns.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or related field (Master's preferred). Certifications in Logistics, Transportation, and/or Distribution preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years in logistics and supply chain management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Required Skills:
- Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in logistics software and supply chain management tools.
- Exceptional negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- In-depth knowledge of transportation regulations and international trade compliance.
