Maintenance Manager
As a Maintenance Manager, you will oversee the daily operations related to the upkeep of the facility, production equipment, and machinery, with a primary focus on sawmill machinery and production lines. You will manage a team responsible for repairing and maintaining plant equipment and machinery, ensuring that performance targets are met. This role reports directly to the Plant Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage work schedules, assign tasks, and supervise the team to minimize overtime and call-in hours, aligning with the company's objectives and performance metrics.
- Implement and maintain a preventative maintenance program for machinery, equipment, and the facility, within budget constraints, and monitor maintenance downtime. Collaborate with Continuous Improvement (CI) teams as needed.
- Coordinate and manage third-party contractor support when necessary, working with project management, engineering, and logistics teams.
- Prepare and manage the maintenance budget, securing estimates and cost quotes as required.
- Stay informed about technological advancements related to performance metrics and maintain compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Enforce safety and housekeeping standards, including hazardous waste disposal programs, and participate in internal safety teams.
- Prepare and present maintenance reports to the Plant Manager and other relevant managers, providing recommendations as needed.
- Work with other plant managers to maintain and improve plant facilities and equipment, making recommendations for replacements or adjustments in line with continuous improvement initiatives.
- Propose and justify current and future projects.
- Provide training for new and existing employees as directed by the Plant Manager.
- Conduct performance evaluations for team members and recommend salary adjustments in line with company policies and performance metrics.
- Assist in hiring, coaching, and addressing disciplinary issues for employees.
- Perform additional duties as directed by the Plant Manager or other supervisory personnel.
Qualifications
- Degree in a related field and 5-10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the sawmill or millwork industry.
- Equivalent combinations of education, certifications, and experience may be considered.
- 1-3 years of supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical, machine repair and maintenance, plant layout, safety, painting, and janitorial work.
- Familiarity with hand and power tools related to the above disciplines.
- Strong understanding of plant/OSHA health and safety standards and compliance, and relevant governmental regulations.
- Knowledge of building and grounds security protocols.
- Advanced understanding of maintenance programs related to performance metrics, including continuous improvement activities.
- Basic knowledge of Lean manufacturing concepts.
- Understanding of human resource principles and practices related to motivating team members.
- Knowledge of sawmill and millwork production equipment and maintenance.
- Proficiency in CAD.

- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and work effectively as part of a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant software applications.
- Primarily local travel during business hours, with occasional travel to vendors, equipment suppliers, seminars, and training.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, across all levels of the organization.
- Technical, leadership, teamwork, decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
