A leading ship repair company is seeking a Steel Supervisor to oversee daily work in the Steel Shop.
The Steel Supervisor will have the following responsibilities:
- Responsible for assigning and monitoring work completion, providing technical assistance, and managing the workforce within the shop.
- Develop and review project schedules and budgets during the planning phase.
- Allocate personnel and resources to efficiently support all contracts, including shift work.
- Oversee and monitor schedule performance, reviewing ongoing and upcoming projects, investigating delays, supervising projects, and developing practical solutions.
- Monitor and evaluate project budget performance, reviewing ongoing and upcoming projects, enhancing productivity, and investigating over-budget items.
- Perform personnel-related functions, including supervising employees, managing performance, handling workforce reductions, promotions, demotions, and discipline.
- Ensure employees understand and adhere to company policies.
- Train and motivate employees in technical knowledge, safety, environmental practices, and communication.
- Ensure compliance with labor agreement requirements.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and conduct regular safety inspections.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth workflow and project integration.
- Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and materials, ensuring they are in good working condition.
- Prepare and submit detailed reports on project progress, workforce performance, and any issues encountered.
- Conduct regular team meetings to discuss project updates, address concerns, and provide feedback.
- Implement quality control measures to ensure all work meets industry standards and specifications.
- Perform other duties as required.
The ideal Steel Supervisor candidate will have the following skillset:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 4+ years of experience in steel working and/or ship fitting.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in steel working and/or ship fitting.
- Experience training, leading, and strategically allocating manpower and resources on a team to achieve objectives.
- Proficient computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office programs and similar software.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
