The Director of Safety is tasked with planning, coordinating, and supervising all safety-related activities within the organization. This role involves managing the training staff, budgeting for safety projects, ensuring compliance with regulations, and developing preventive maintenance programs. The primary objective is to maintain optimal facility operations, reduce downtime, and ensure both safety and regulatory compliance.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Predict, identify, and assess hazardous conditions and practices.
- Create safety methods, procedures, and programs.
- Develop and oversee the Safety department's budget, including spending on equipment, supplies, and staff.
- Ensure accurate safety reporting and recordkeeping.
- Ensure and audit compliance with job safety and health regulations. Assess tools, equipment, materials, and the roles of safety personnel at local locations.
- Stay updated on relevant regulations, standards, and requirements.
- Lead the creation and implementation of comprehensive safety programs.
- Ensure FMCSA compliance, reduce risks, and foster a safety-oriented culture.
- Ensure OSHA compliance and develop procedures for locations to follow.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- In-depth knowledge of FMCSA and OSHA regulations, safety compliance, and best practices for fleet maintenance.
- Experience in safety for transportation services such as car/bus rentals
- 7+ years of industry relevant experience
- Ability to provide training, direction, guidance, and coaching.
- Must be organized, proactive, and able to work independently and objectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven track record of meeting deadlines.
- Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to fleet operations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Active Commercial Driver License.
