Role Overview
As the Materials Manager, you will be responsible for leading all aspects of material management, from inventory control to procurement, to ensure the seamless flow of materials to support production. In this role, you'll report directly to the Plant Manager and supervise teams in shipping, receiving, planning, and inventory control. You'll drive efficient operations by balancing inventory levels, reducing costs, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring timely production. Your ability to stay organized, think strategically, and lead cross-functional teams will be key to your success.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the on-time delivery of shipments to customers, maintaining a high level of performance and customer satisfaction.
* Oversee the activities of shipping, receiving, planning, and inventory control teams, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
* Develop, implement, and continuously improve policies, procedures, and material control systems to optimize efficiency and reduce costs.
* Manage the procurement, planning, inventory control, and quality management of production materials, ensuring timely and cost-effective supply.
* Balance inventory levels to prevent stockouts, minimize cash flow disruptions, and support production needs.
* Ensure consistent material availability, maintain healthy inventory turns, manage backorders, and resolve any past-due backlog.
* Collaborate with the Sales and Marketing teams to forecast product demand, coordinate inventory needs, and align cash flow requirements.
* Lead the planning team to effectively use Master Production Schedules (MPS) and Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems.
* Manage the purchase order process, including issuing POs, reviewing contracts, and ensuring compliance with company policies.
* Assign procurement tasks to appropriate personnel and manage the disposal of surplus materials.
What You'll Need
* Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
* 10+ years of experience in materials management, supply chain, or manufacturing environments.
* Lean and/or Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certification.
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical, regulatory, and business data.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and presentations.
* Proficiency in mathematical, statistical, and geometric concepts.
* Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex situations with limited standardization.
* Experience with ERP systems, database management, and Microsoft 365.
* Prior experience supervising teams in shipping, receiving, and inventory control functions.
Work Environment
This position is a mix of office and manufacturing environments, and occasionally, you may be required to perform tasks outside of the typical office setting.
