SUMMARY:
The Director of Operations is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the department. This person leads all operations, ensuring that key performance indicators (KPIs) are met and manufacturing commitments are delivered. The role emphasizes strategic vision, leadership, and continuous improvement within the operations to support overall business objectives.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Oversee accountabilities, including safety compliance, quality, productivity, and cost management.
- Lead and manage the operations team, fostering teamwork and professional development.
- Develop and manage the annual budget, monitoring expenditures and reporting variances.
- Develop and execute strategies that maximize productivity, minimize waste, and reduce operating costs.
- Ensure alignment with sales and distribution teams to meet customer service commitments.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance KPIs and overall operational efficiency.
- Collaborate with the Purchasing team on optimal use and procurement of materials.
- Manage operations to achieve P&L objectives.
- Promote environmental stewardship and ensure proper machinery operation and maintenance.
- Lead capital projects efficiently, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget.
- Develop and implement training programs for team members to enhance skills and knowledge.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong understanding of operations, including chemistry, de-inking, and bleaching processes.
- Proven ability to lead and inspire teams in a cooperative and motivational manner.
- Practical time management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and challenging deadlines.
- Understand and work with internal customer needs and KPIs; recognize Purchasing KPIs and work with them on residual shipments and contraries.
- Working knowledge and application of maintenance reliability principles.
- Strong sense of urgency and ownership.
- Ability to operate and learn new system technologies (e.g., Parcview).
- Experience with Lean Six Sigma methodologies is preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- B.S. degree in engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the industry, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
- De-ink experience preferred.
- Demonstrated management experience and exhibited leadership skills.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with peers and other departments.
- Self-starter, highly motivated, able to see the larger picture of the business and its growth.
