Dockmaster required for Leading Shipbuilder/Ship Repair Company

A leading shipbuilding and repair company is seeking a Dockmaster to plan and oversee all dry docking activities.
The Dockmaster will have the following responsibilities:
- Collaborate with project managers on dock and pier capabilities.
- Serve as the first point of contact for incoming vessels.
- Oversee daily waterfront operations.
- Coordinate with supervisors and Safety to move heavy equipment safely.
- Track invoices and work hours using internal programs.
- Manage facility repairs, maintenance, and equipment installations.
- Plan and execute docking/undocking activities, perform stability calculations, and maintain logs.
- Lead the Preventive Maintenance team and optimize programs.
- Support product/process improvements and coordinate with management.
- Ensure a safe and clean dock environment.
- Work with the Environmental/Occupational Safety and Health Manager for compliance.
- Manage staffing levels and materials to meet financial goals.
- Direct project work, coordinate tasks, and inspect quality.
- Design and plan dockings using CAD.
- Oversee vessel, drydock, facilities, and personnel operations.
- Train employees on docking processes.
- Handle drydocking paperwork, tests, and inspections.
- Track and execute annual compliance items.
- Ensure all utilities are functioning.
- Oversee maintenance and repairs of rolling stock and machinery.
- Communicate with contractors, regulatory bodies, clients, and team members.
- Explore energy/utility conservation and recycling opportunities.
- Identify maintenance needs and produce estimates/analysis.
- Develop and manage budgets for the annual Facilities Business Plan.
- Control security budgets, recruit/train personnel, and maintain checkpoints.
- Monitor surveillance systems and respond to emergencies.
- Manage crane picks, heavy lifts, and major rigging operations.
- Supervise heavy rigging equipment.
- Supervise up to 20 hourly craft employees, including the Assistant Dock Master, Facilities Supervisor, and Dry Dock Rigging staff.
- Manage all staff involved in dry-docking operations.
The ideal Dockmaster candidate will have the following skillset:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in drydocking operations.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree in business or engineering, or equivalent experience, preferred.
- At least ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in a shipyard or plant engineering environment within the marine industry.
- At least five (5) years of progressively responsible managerial experience, including three (3) years in a supervisory role.
- Expertise in shipyard operations, complex rigging, and heavy lifts.
- Familiar with industrial equipment, cranes, and plant utilities.
- Committed to maintaining professional and technical knowledge.
- Experience working with ship superintendents, port engineers, and department managers.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for all levels and external customers.
- Knowledgeable in marine equipment, ship repair/construction, and safety practices.
- Ability to lead and motivate employees in a production environment.
- Skilled in strategic planning and implementation.
- Analytical skills for problem-solving and special requests.
- Well-organized, detail-oriented, and customer-focused.
- Proficient in reading work specifications, blueprints, and technical publications.
- Capable of handling competing priorities and high-priority projects.
- Ability to schedule and coordinate work within diverse departments.
- Effective in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of accounting, material procurement, and data processing systems.
- Proficient with PC software like Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, and databases.
- Knowledge of OSHA and environmental regulations.
