DSJ Global is partnered with a top paper company to hire a Safety Manager at their Mississippi site.
The Safety Manager works closely with facility leadership to oversee and enforce safety protocols, ensuring compliance with company policies and regulatory standards. This role provides technical expertise, conducts audits, investigates incidents, and implements safety initiatives to maintain a secure and compliant work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Safety Oversight:
- Lead investigations for near-miss incidents, property damage, and workplace injuries to identify root causes and corrective actions.
- Perform daily facility inspections to assess housekeeping, fire safety systems, and compliance with safety protocols.
- Conduct audits for forklift operations, fire system maintenance, and personal protective equipment (PPE) compliance.
- Monitor cell phone usage and overall adherence to safety standards.
- Actively participate in the Behavior-Based Safety (BBS) program to foster a culture of proactive safety.
- Provide safety coaching to the Mill Manager, Production Managers, and Maintenance Manager on tactical safety practices.
Strategic Safety Initiatives:
- Align Marcal Safety Standards with regulatory compliance.
- Review and update safety objectives and maintain accurate OSHA logs.
- Develop and oversee the Severe Injury and Fatality (SIF) Plan to mitigate high-risk scenarios.
- Collaborate with the Mill Manager on the FM Global Action Plan for risk management.
- Inspect all fire safety systems, including sprinklers, alarms, risers, and hydrants, ensuring no deficiencies exist.
- Evaluate Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) systems in paper manufacturing and converting operations.
- Assess suspended load procedures in manufacturing, converting, and maintenance activities.
- Implement pedestrian safety measures to prevent forklift-related incidents.
- Monitor compliance with confined space entry protocols.
- Conduct a machine guarding audit throughout the facility.
- Evaluate forklift safety practices, recommending improvements as needed.
- Strengthen the BBS system, ensuring leadership engagement and full workforce participation.
- Review and manage outstanding safety concerns within the Yellow Card System.
- Identify and monitor high-risk employees to ensure compliance with safety policies.
- Conduct a Walking-Working Surfaces assessment, inspecting ladders, platforms, walkways, and flooring conditions.
- Conduct root cause analyses for safety incidents and recommend corrective measures.ls.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Management, or a related field (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
- 1-3 years of experience in a safety-related role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and environmental safety standards.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and interpersonal).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience managing environmental compliance and regulatory reporting.
